Miranda Moore scored 13 points to lead a balanced effort as Eastern New Mexico University staked out a 20-8 first quarter and never trailed over the final 36 minutes of an 80-69 victory Tuesday over New Mexico Highlands.
Sarah Stinnett added 11 points and four assists, Briana White had 10 and three other players were within a basket of double figures for the Greyhounds (3-2).
Brittany Gutierrez scored eight points and pulled down seven rebounds for the Greyhounds, who have answered a two-game skid with a two-game winning streak in the last four days.
Michelle Traynham and Giulia Simioni each scored 20 to lead the Cowgirls (2-2), but nobody else scored more than six. Traynham went 4-for-9 from beyond the arc, leading a 9-of-24 performance on 3-pointers for the Cowgirls.
ENMU, meanwhile, was 5-for-11, with five different players hitting treys.
The Greyhounds will head across the state Monday to face Western New Mexico in a 6 p.m. tipoff.
Frye honored: ENMU junior Lauren Frye, who had 15 kills in the Greyhounds’ Lone Star Conference playoff quarterfinal, was named to the LSC’s tournament team.
At least one player from all eight tournament participants were placed on the team, including two each from Texas Woman’s and Cameron and three each from Tarleton State and Angelo State. The Rambelles’ Maggi Jo Keffury was the tournament MVP.
Frye, who led ENMU and was second in the LSC with 496 kills, moved into fourth place in school history with 1,149 kills. She needs 119 to pass Irma Cobos-Hernandez for third.
