Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
Douglas Bowman was born and raised in Clovis. He has worked in law enforcement for almost 20 years. He enjoys fishing, hunting and playing sports. When they get the chance, Bowman enjoys taking trips with his family. He has a soft spot for the youth in his community and loves when the community comes together to advocate for children in need. Four years ago, he started an annual Christmas party for the children in his community. It's strictly donation-based, and it brings gifts and all the joys of the holidays to the kids who attend. Bowman has worked for the Texico Police Department for eight years.

What do you like about being police chief?
The number one thing I like about working in Texico is the community. It's a nice place to live, and I enjoy the people here. The good thing about Texico is that the crime rate is pretty low, which gives me the opportunity to focus on other things within the department and the community. I like to get involved with the schools; I get to do things like help them with their bicycle safety day. Anytime we can be involved with the schools, I really enjoy it.
What do you not like about your job?
The monotonous paperwork I have to turn in to the state and the feds, but that’s part of the job.
When you were a kid, what did you think you’d be doing as an adult?
My plans were to be a professional athlete.
What’s your favorite song? Do you have a theme song?
A lot of people have called me cocky throughout my career and life, so it would be “Cocky,” by Kid Rock.
What’s so great about your favorite sport?
My favorite sport is golf. I like it because it’s a sport where it’s you; it’s not a team sport. It’s you against the course. To me, you’re depending on yourself, and it’s how I look at my career … Law enforcement is a brotherhood, of course, but you’re always looking out for yourself.
What’s your favorite TV show, past and present?
My wife and I like to watch the “Blacklist.” A past show I hated to see come to an end was “Sons of Anarchy.” That was a good show.
If I could do anything, I would …
I would take all children in bad situations of abuse and put them in a safe place where they won’t have no worries anymore.
What’s your favorite taste?
I absolutely love a medium rare rib-eye steak.
What’s your favorite smell?
I love the smell of the mountains in the early morning when I'm going out elk hunting.
What do you envision your life being like in 10 years?
Well, in 11 years my youngest will be graduating from high school, and I see both of my kids in a good career. Ultimately, I see my family being happy, healthy and strong.
