ENMU collects four providsional qualifiers at Pittsburg St. meet

PITTSBURG, Kansas — Eastern New Mexico University’s indoor track and field team got four provisional qualifications for NCAA Division II national competition in Friday’s Pittsburg State Invitational.

The women’s distance medley team, including Amber Saiz, Kiana Covington, Klaudia Szych and Sabrina Huelga finished first with a time of 12 minutes, 8.8 seconds, more than eight seconds faster than the runner-up team from Murray State.

Huelga also provisionally qualified in the mile run with a second-place time of 4:56.78, while Szych provisionally qualified by taking third in the 800 with a time of 2:14.29.

The Greyhounds’ other provisional qualifier was Julian Clark-Coronado, who was 20th in the men’s 60 at a time of 6.90 seconds.

Other notable ENMU performances included:

• Saiz, fifth in the women’s mile, 5:07.21

• Azalia Rodriguez, 21st in the women’s 800, 2:20.65

• Laura Grube, 34th in women’s weight throw, 42 feet, 6 inches

• Valentin Caudron, ninth in the men’s mile, 4:22.88

• Avery Rasher, 25th in the men’s 400, 50.05

• August Swanson, 27th in men’s 400, 50.17

• Victor Cruz, 30th in the men’s 60, 6.94

The Greyhounds travel to the University of New Mexico next weekend.
