ENMU women rally, post win over Cameron

LAWTON, Okla. — Eastern New Mexico University’s women ended the game on an 11-0 run, taking their first lead of the night on senior guard Sarah Stinnett’s basket with 10 seconds left, and the Greyhounds handed Cameron a 72-69 Lone Star Conference loss on Thursday.

Stinnett, who finished with a season-high 26 points, gave the Hounds (9-13, 4-8 LSC) a 70-69 lead with 10 seconds left. Cameron’s D.J. Vallier then missed two free throws with five seconds left and senior guard Jordyn Cooper hit a pair of free throws with one second left for the final margin.

Senior guard Dayla Threatt led the Aggies (12-9, 6-6) with 20 points, while guard Brandi Leal scored 16 points and post Vallier added 12.

The Hounds won the game at the line, hitting 21-of-26 foul shots to 12-of-20 for Cameron, with Stinnett going 9-for-9.

Freshman Brandi Gomez of Clovis hit a free throw to give the Aggies a 27-12 lead in the final minute of the first period, but Stinnett scored five points before the end of the period and the Hounds finished off a 15-0 run to pull even 27-27 on Stinnett’s laup with 5:33 left in the half.

Cameron outscored ENMU, though, 20-7 the rest of the frame and led 47-34 at the break, then led by 15 again three times early in the third frame.

Consecutive 3s by Cooper, who finished with 10 points, and Jasmine Hotchkins pulled ENMU to 64-59 in the final period. Stinnett’s 3-point play with 3:34 left started the game-ending surge.
