Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
A friend of mine told me he didn't ever need to take drugs. He could get the same affect by standing up real quick. I could relate, but on a deeper level.
Lonnie Berry
My grandfather was the foreman for the state highway department when I was growing up. He and my grandmother lived on the lot in Clovis. On weekends when we would visit, the lot was a treasure trove of exciting things to do. If you have never ridden a stop sign down a large hill of gravel, then you haven't lived.
On one of our weekend visits, my brother, an older cousin and I were sliding down hills and being what we thought were real daredevils. As we became more daring, we found a piece of culvert that was about two feet diameter and 4 feet long. My cousin thought it would be pretty neat to ride the culvert down the hill.
I guess since I was the youngest, I was chosen to ride down first. I don't remember a lot about the trip down, just that I hit my head at every turn and I got a bloody nose. I do remember that when I got to the bottom, I couldn't stand up.
That is the same feeling I get standing up too quick.
