Two Hounds receive indoor track academic honor

RICHARDSON, Texas — Eastern New Mexico junior Scott Wesselink and senior Klaudia Szych were two of 22 athletes named Friday to the Lone Star Conference’s all-academic team for the indoor track and field season.

Wesselink was one of three athletes earning a second selection to the team, while Szych received her first selection.

To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.3 grade point average and have reached sophomore status, both athletically and academically.

Tarleton State boasted the men’s and women’s academic players of the year in Jordan Jones and Aly Coughlin. West Texas A&M was tops with seven total selections.

Also on the men’s all-academic team were Tarleton State’s Dylan Willett and Cade Hitzfeld; Texas A&M-Kingsville’s Bryce Martin and Michal Idziak; West Texas A&M’s Zach Daniel, Jon Ferrin, and Jacob Norris; and Texas A&M-Commerce’s Turner Pool and Andrew Cobos.

Other women’s selections included WT's Bri Leeper, Libby Strickland, Lindy Paisly, and Jasmine Pitts; A&M-C’s Terra Truitt, TAMUK’s Kaina Martinez, and Angelo State’s Amber Graham, Morgan Rodgers, and Claudia Ramirez. Leeper and Strickland are three-time selections.
