The city of Clovis is one step closer to selecting its next police chief.
“We have conducted the interviews with the three finalists for the position,” City Manager Larry Fry said on Thursday. “And we are now evaluating the results and determining the best choice. It will take several days to conclude the process.”
On Feb. 11, Fry announced the city’s search for a chief had been pared to three finalists from an original field of 14.
Finalists are Interim Chief Doug Ford, Houston-area law officer and University of Houston and Wharton Junior College lecturer Aaron Tyksinski and former New Mexico Law Enforcement Training Academy Director Jack Jones.
Fry said he had assistance from four people in the interview process, including former Portales City Manager Debi Lee, now manager of the village of Ruidoso, and Ed Zendel of the New Mexico Municipal League.
Clovis Human Resources Director Nancye Clements and Clovis Budget and Internal Operations Manager Don Clifton also aided in the process, Fry said.
Ford has been the city’s interim chief since Steve Sanders retired in June. He began his law enforcement career with the Ruidoso Police Department in 1995 and began service with the Clovis Police Department two years later.
Tyksinski entered the law enforcement field as a deputy with the Fort Bend County Precinct 3 Constable’s Office in Texas in 1997 after starting his career in fire safety.
Jones began his law enforcement career as a New Mexico State Police patrolman in 1973. He resigned from his post as New Mexico Law Enforcement Training Academy Director in December 2015.
