1956: A 23-year-old musician and music instructor died in an Amarillo hospital 11 days after a traffic accident.

Jeffrey Broxson, who lived at 1012 E. Fifth St. in Clovis, was initially admitted to Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo with injuries hospital officials described as minor.

A “blood condition” that led to clotting ultimately led to his death, the Clovis News-Journal reported.

1966: The body of an Elida man was enroute to Portales for funeral services and burial.

Lyle Radcliff Lambirth, 40, had died in a fire at a hotel in St. Joseph, Missouri.

1956: Police Officer Bill Davis, who had his foot amputated following an on-the-job auto accident, received a “beautiful 17-inch table model TV set” as a gift from friends and business owners.

Davis said the TV had been delivered to his home in Portales and he wanted to thank those involved.
