Berry: I remember blowing dirt on Easter

My dad used to say to never plant a garden until after the Easter cold snap. I know we have had some pretty cold spells during Easter, but that is not the weather I remember at Easter.

My family would get together every year with aunts, uncles, cousins and other close relatives. We would gather at a family member's house in Causey or sometimes in Lingo. The day always consisted of a huge meal and an afternoon of Easter egg hunting.

One particular Easter I remember we all gathered at our cousin's house in Lingo. After lunch, all of the kids were sent to the garage while the adults went out to hide eggs. I don't remember it being cold, but I sure remember the wind blowing.

When all of us kids were called to the yard, we went running out into that wind. If you did not have a good hold on your basket, the wind would blow it out of your hand. The wind was blowing dirt over the eggs faster than we could get to them.

We did the best we could, but we could not get all of the eggs found before the dirt covered them up. Some of those eggs didn't show back up for a month.
