According to police, Baca was transported to Plains Regional Medical Center and later airlifted to a Lubbock, Texas, area hospital, where she is in critical but stable condition. Police said the Major Crimes Unit has been activated as part of the probe and search for Morrisette, who is described as being 5-foot-11 weighing 175 pounds with multiple tattoos on his neck.
Police said Morrisette should be considered armed and dangerous and was last seen driving a 2011 black Nissan Maxima.
A witness, Ray Martinez, told police he was in front of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church watering flowers when he observed a car traveling south on Davis in front of the church and later stopping further down the street.
Martinez told police he observed a woman, later identified as Baca, run away from the car screaming as a man caught her and began punching her on the right side of her body. After punching Baca, Martinez told police the man “grabbed her by her hair and slammed her head-first onto the paved road.”
Martinez said he intervened by yelling, but was concerned because he had nothing to defend himself with should the assailant come after him. After the assailant drove off, Martinez called police.
