PORTALES — The Eastern New Mexico women’s soccer team was handed its second straight loss Thursday night, falling to Adams State 2-0.

After playing the Grizzlies (2-1) to a 0-0 half time draw, the Greyhounds (0-2-1) seemingly lost their composure in the second half, giving up two goals on defense and stalling on the offensive end.

Anniah Galdean and Jenna Sievers each recorded two shots for the Hounds, who totaled seven shots on the night with two on goal. Adams recorded 12 shots total, with Daisy Perez leading the way with four, scoring one. Lacey Daniel scored the Grizzlies other goal.

In the past, Eastern head coach Omar Morales has said in the past that sometimes the team struggles with competing for the entire 90 minutes, something that reared its ugly head again against Adams.

“I think it’s the same thing, you know, competing. It goes back to the same thing I keep mentioning, about competing for a full 90 minutes. Having a bunch of injuries is definitely not helping either,” he said.

The team is marred with injuries, sidelining some key players who Morales was hoping would really contribute this season.

While his team is very deep off the bench, heading into this season they all had a plan, or at least an idea, as to what they wanted to do from a strategy standpoint with their starting personnel. Unfortunately it is back to the drawing board, as those injuries have thrown a wrench in Morales scheme.

“I think we’re deep enough. I say that, but I really do think we’re deep enough, despite results like this,” said Morales. “It’s kind of one of those things where we have to change things around and when you mix that with the competing for 90 minutes, it’s not good.”
