Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
Portales residents got a head start for their holiday shopping while supporting local artisans.
The Hydration Station hosted their Holiday Craft Bazaar Saturday in Portales, which brought shoppers together to look at homemade gifts and to purchase for family and friends.
Lilla Cortez said she came to the bazaar to shop for her daughter, Anaya and herself.
Cortez said she looked at Christmas decorations, but purchased for her daughter a small stuffed toy owl.
"I looked at frames, mostly stuff that you can hang on the wall and hang outside," said Cortez. "We're just looking around."
"It seems like Christmas time's coming," said Portales resident Travis Harrell. "(I've been looking at) warm stuff, home stuff. It's about that time."
Harrell said he looked at ear and head muffs because of the winter season, but he also enjoyed looking at a variety of paintings available at the bazaar. His wife, Olivia, said she bought a crochet headband for her daughter.
Christmas shopping is what brought Carol Fletcher to the bazaar as well.
"We came out here to look. It's really neat to see our local crafters," said Fletcher.
Fletcher said she purchased stocking stuffers such as ornaments to surprise family and friends.
Portales resident Katie Heflin said she enjoyed the variety of "unique" gifts and "all the lovely homemade items," including barnwood and rustic style items.
Resident Elaine Gard said she purchased tops and leggings from Lu La Roe clothing while also exploring a variety of different items.
"We'll probably be looking at what else is available. Probably just crafts and different things that might be unique for our family," said Gard. "We like to support the business people in our community."
Gard said she shopped at Lu La Roe for her daughter because the clothing is comfortable.
"It's just very friendly for women and children," said Gard. "It's nice to see it in person."
Portales resident Carmela Rupe said she shopped for her friends and family. Her purchases included decorative items, handmade soaps and lotions.
"It's a nice little surprise," said Rupe. "It's a personal touch to give to people this year."
Portales resident Benito Gonzales said Christmas tree decorations such as ornaments were a highlight at the bazaar.
He added he looked for religious decorations to hang around the home while also purchasing blueberry pinot jam.
"It's pretty neat that you have your local artists," said Gonzales. "We're just kind of out and about."
