Country star Gary Allan performing in Clovis

CLOVIS - The Curry County Events Center is making way for a famous country music star.

Gary Allan, whose 2013 album "Set You Free" made No. 1 on the Billboard 200, is performing at 8:30 p.m. today at the center. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7:30 p.m.

Events Center General Manager Joelle Reed said tonight will be Allan's first performance at the center.

"We're very excited that Gary Allan is coming here," said Reed. "He posted a Facebook video message talking about Clovis. It's kind of neat for a famous musician to say your hometown."

Portales country music group Will Banister and the Modern Day Ramblers will be the opening act, Reed said.

"It's a good opportunity for a local artist to meet Gary Allan. Will is great here regionally," said Reed.

Banister said he is excited to be a part of the show.

"When I was a little kid, I had a Gary Allan album called 'Smoke Rings in the Dark.' I'm a pretty big fan of him," said Banister. "When I was 11 years old, I sung a song off that album - a version of 'Runaway' (originally by Del Shannon) at the Floyd Jamboree."

Banister said he will perform songs from his album "One Way to Live," released in September.

"The events center talked to us to see if we'd be interested and we said heck yeah we are," said Banister. "We're big fans and just honored to be doing something like that."

Events Manager Stephanie Pierson said plenty of tickets are still available, but could not say the amount of tickets already sold.

"We probably have two-thirds of the floor full," said Pierson. "There's some in the bowl. I think it's going to be a great turnout."

Some seats are left in rows five through 20, Pierson said, and tickets cost $49.50. Tickets for rows 21 through 30 cost $35.50.

Tickets can be purchased by calling the center at 575-935-7000 and through http://www.curryeventscenter.com. The box office will open at 8 a.m. today and tickets will be sold until 9 p.m. Will-call tickets can be picked up any time before the show.
