RIO RANCHO — Rio Rancho Cleveland built a 37-point halftime lead on Saturday and handed Clovis High’s boys an 81-26 shellacking.
The Storm (4-0), who beat Carlsbad on Friday night, placed only three players in double figures in the contest, led by senior guard Marcus Hill with 17, but a total of 11 Cleveland players scored.
“They’re good, big, athletic,” CHS coach Scott Robinson said. “They pressured us early and really caused us problems with their press.
“They got off to a quick start, turning us over and getting easy (baskets). It kind of got us rattled, and it was hard to get ourselves back in it.”
Junior guard Jakeem Wynn finished with 11 points for the Wildcats (1-2).
Robinson said junior guard Brandon Romero landed awkwardly during the game and was laer taken to a hospital. His status for next week is to be determined.
