Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

Club notes - Dec. 11

Curry County Retired Educators

Ms. Dianne Davis called the meeting to order in President-elect Eileen Massey's absence and introduced today's guest performers, the Clovis High School Chamber Choir, led by Mr. Sean Galloway. The Chamber Choir sang a medley of Christmas songs, very beautifully and professionally executed, and encouraged audience participation on their last number. The performance was a delight for one and all.

We invite all retired Curry County teachers to join us at K-Bob's at 11 a.m. for our next meeting on Dec. 6. This program will include our area legislators. It’s an excellent opportunity to ask questions of how our legislation affects current and retired teachers and staff.

Fourteen members of District 1, which consist of members of different Epsilon Sigma Alpha groups, attended the November meeting. Members were Collene Baldwin, Sandy Heath, Laura Loflin, Patsy Lorenz, Royce Lorenz, Beverly Miller and Suzy Moore.

Meals on Wheels

The Meals on Wheels organization is grateful for the organizations, businesses and individuals that faithfully serve us with drivers. At this time we find ourselves in need of additional drivers who are willing to deliver meals between 11 a.m. and noon except on weekends. Drivers are responsible for delivering a route consisting of a few food trays to people who have special needs, are recuperating from a hospital stay or are elderly and in need of Meals on Wheels services.

Those who join with us are sent a calendar for the month they serve, which they fill with drivers from their group who will drive one route. Individuals fill in blank days that organizations or businesses are unable to fill on their calendar or might be able to substitute for a driver on short notice.

For information, call Cora Stroud, route coordinator, at 575-359-1483.

Meals on Wheels is funded by The United Way and by individual contributions designated on their behalf through United Way.
