Portales City Council
The following were actions taken at the Portales City Council meeting Tuesday in the Memorial Building:
• Councilors convened in executive session to discuss matters pertaining to the purchase, acquisition or disposal of real property or water rights.
No action was taken.
• Portales Police Chief Pat Gallegos reported to the council that his department is once again a state-accredited agency.
Gallegos noted that the accreditation process took three years and could not have been successful without the help of the entire department.
• Councilors approved a project grant agreement with the New Mexico Department of Transportation Traffic Safety Division.
According to Gallegos, the agreement is brought before the council each year to receive grant funding for three traffic safety programs: ENDWI (End Driving While Impaired), Click It or Ticket, and STEP (Selective Traffic Enforcement Program).
Total funding for the projects is $14,848.
• Councilors approved a resolution to declare the intent of the city to consider adopting an ordinance authorizing the issuance and sale of up to $6 million of water and wastewater net system revenue bonds and allow the city manager and city clerk to publish those notices of intent in a newspaper, if and when they decide to sell the bonds.
“This just allows us to publish a notice of intent. It saves about two weeks in the process. This just authorizes Joan (Martinez-Terry) and myself to publish that information,” City Manager Sammy Standefer said.
