1971: Clovis was recognized as one of the few communities where "firm plans" had been made to observe New Mexico's 60th year of statehood.
City commissioners had signed a proclamation for a year-long observance.
A celebration had been scheduled Jan. 8 at the Yucca Junior High gymnasium.
Entertainment was planned, but "there will be no political speeches," said Don McAlavy, chairman of the Clovis Cultural Affairs Committee.
1956: Clovis TV Service had declared itself "the Southwest's finest television store" and suggested customers "Don't miss the bowl games" and "Let us install a set in your home Monday."
The store was at 10th and Main, "across from Furr's."
A 21-inch 1957 Motorola (with a "263-square inch viewable area") was on sale for $199.
