SILVER CITY -- The Eastern New Mexico University Greyhounds rallied from a first-half deficit, and a first-half lull, to notch their first Lone Star Conference win, 78-71 over Western New Mexico.
Joe Clarke scored 22 points to lead three in double figures for the Greyhounds (7-8, 1-4 LSC), who scored the game’s first seven points but still managed to fall behind when the host Mustangs responded with a 17-2 run.
The Greyhounds opened the second half with Marquise Harris scoring nine points in a 16-5 run.
Western (2-11, 0-5) retook the lead with 8:29 to go on a pair of C.J. Vanbeekum, but Clarke responded with a 3-pointer on the next possession and the Greyhounds never trailed again.
Marquise Harris had 16 points, while Javaan Mumtaz scored 10 points for Eastern.
Eddie Giron scored 15 points to lead six in double figures for the Mustangs. Clovis native Willie McCray scored 11 points in 35 minutes.
Guard CoRnell Neal had seven points and six assists for the Greyhounds, who are off for a week before they resume Lone Star Conference play with a noon Jan. 12 home contest against Cameron.
