Melrose, Floyd scholarship apps open until March
Applications for the Victor N. Fulkrod Memorial Scholarship, designated for Melrose or Floyd High School graduates planning to major in agriculture, business or education, will be accepted until March 1.
Students must be full-time with a 3.0 cumulative high school or 2.75 cumulative college GPA and be an incoming freshman, current freshman or sophomore at any Eastern New Mexico University campus at the time of application.
The application requires a short essay explaining why they chose their field of study and why they should be selected. It is available at http://www.enmu.edu/fri/foundation/scholarships/index.shtml.
Previous winners may reapply.
Scholarship program deadline coming up
The deadline is Feb. 1 for applications to the Foundation for Rural Service College Scholarship Program.
Applicants must be graduating high school seniors, U.S. citizens, have at least a 2.0 grade point average, express an interest to return to a rural community after graduation, be a dependent of any cooperative member receiving landline telephone service inside the cooperative’s exchange area and be accepted to attend an accredited two- or four-year college, university or vocational-technical school

Chipotle announces opening delay
CLOVIS — Chipotle Mexican Grill has sent out a news release announcing a delay in the opening of its Clovis location.
The release said the restaurant will hopefully open in late February. That was changed from a previous date of Jan. 31.
When opened, the restaurant will be the chain’s fifth in New Mexico.
Xcel employees take key positions
AMARILLO — Two Xcel Energy employees have been named to key positions in the company’s regional substation and transmission organizations, according to an Xcel press release.
Perry Foster is the new regional director for substation operations and maintenance, overseeing transmission and distribution substation maintenance, system protection and transmission and distribution substation construction. He most recently served as Xcel Energy’s manager for system protection in New Mexico and Texas.
Cory Wood is the regional director for transmission line construction and operations providing leadership, strategic direction and daily operation direction for all.
He most recently served as senior manager in the company’s transmission project management group, overseeing dozens of transmission development projects across New Mexico and Texas.
