Joe's Boot Shop building has new owner

CLOVIS — The former home of Joe's Boot Shop has a new owner.

Traci Franklin, who has operated Traci's Greenhouse since 2012, said she has purchased the 18,000-square foot building on Clovis' Mabry Drive and plans to relocate her business from 5021 N. Prince this spring.

"My anniversary of being open in Clovis is March 13," she said. "So we may have a grand re-opening during that time."

Clay Franklin said he will operate his feed-additive business out of the warehouse behind the former boot shop.

Feed Works USA will relocate from Hull Street over the next few months into the 40,000-square foot warehouse.

"We have a few things to work on for Traci, but I just need to put in some docks to unload trucks, and that's it for me," Clay Franklin said.

The Franklins operate their businesses themselves with part-time help, Traci Franklin said.

Joe and Darla Rhodes began selling boots and ranch supplies in Muleshoe in the 1960s before opening Joe's Boot Shop and relocating to the Mabry Drive location in 2001. They sold the business to Coli and Jenna Hunt of Texico in 2012, records show. The Hunts filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, and the boot shop closed in February 2015.

The building has been closed since its inventory was liquidated.

Traci Franklin said the location offers opportunity for her business to grow. It's almost six times bigger than the North Prince Street shop, from which she sells home decor, metal yard art, clothing and jewelry in addition to plants and nursery supplies.

She said she has already started working to relocate.

"The priority at this point is getting the building ready to open before flowers come in late February or the first of March," she said.

The Logan native said she plans to remain open "as much as possible" during the transition.
