Roosevelt chamber banquet to honor residents

PORTALES — The 2017 Roosevelt County Chamber of Commerce will be hosting one of its largest annual events Thursday at which it will honor Portales residents who have worked hard for their community.

The chamber's annual banquet will take place at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Yam Theatre and will give attendees the chance to dress formally with the theme "an evening of elegance."

Along with a meal catered by Sodexo and live music provided by the cast of Eastern New Mexico University's production of "Pirates of Penzance," the event will feature awards given to businesses and community members that demonstrated the most dedication to their work in 2016.

The awards to be handed out include the following:

• The Ambassador of the Year Award for the ambassador to the chamber who served in the greatest capacity and always showed for events.

• The Harley and Faye Borden Award, created in honor of a well-respected couple from Portales, is presented to recognize someone who has significantly improved their business or the appearance of their business during the previous year.

• The Workhorse of the Year Award, presented to acknowledge hard work in the community.

• The President's Award is a "business of the year" award presented to a business that has gone above and beyond.

• The Warm Heart of the Sunbelt is a "lifetime achievement award" given to an individual who has given community throughout the years.

Chamber Executive Director Karl Terry said there are only a limited number of tickets left for the event. Tickets for the event are $25 per seat or $180 for a table of eight and can be purchased online at portales.com or by calling 575-356-8541.
