1977: A New Mexico State Police officer was injured in an accident at the intersection of 21st Street and Jonquil Drive in Clovis.

Lt. Dwain Johnson, 41, was treated for back pain and released from Clovis Memorial Hospital.

Johnson's patrol car was struck by a 1976 van, driven by a 77-year-old Clovis man.

The van's driver was cited for following too close.

1972: The Frio Baptist Church parsonage was destroyed by fire that followed an explosion.

Mary Lee Ogan and her daughter, Debbie Pitman, were both treated for burns at the hospital in Hereford.

Ogan, the wife of Pastor Sam Ogan, was initially listed in critical condition and transferred to a hospital in Amarillo, but her condition was upgraded the next day. Pitman was less seriously injured.

Investigators said the fire was started by a "craft project that required a large amount of glue."

"For a reason not yet established, the glue apparently exploded," the Clovis News-Journal reported.

The parsonage, 12 miles south of Hereford, was destroyed by the fire.
