ENMU's Lee hires offensive line coach

PORTALES — One week into the job, Eastern New Mexico University football coach Kelley Lee has already hired a new assistant.

Lee announced on Monday the hiring of offensive line coach Andrew McCraw, an ENMU alumnus and former Greyhounds graduate assistant.

More recently McCraw was the head coach at Socorro High School after a stint as an assistant at Lovington High.

“We’ve moved on an offensive line coach and he will also be our run game coordinator,” Lee said. “Andrew McCraw is a familiar face; he coached our OL in 2012, ’13 and ’14.”

Next on his to-do list: Lee must replace defensive coordinator Scott Lewis, who will be joining former Greyhounds coach Josh Lynn at the University of Nebraska-Kearney.

Defensive coordinator is the only coordinator spot the Greyhounds will need to fill, as Lee will remain the offensive playcaller.

“I think defensively it will be a little bit more the coordinator as I will be more involved in the offense,” Lee said. “Our defensive coordinator needs to be the head coach of our defense, so I am looking for someone who will take charge of that group, take control of it and run his schemes.”

Lee said more changes may be coming, but nothing has been finalized. As for now, the coach is focused mostly on recruiting efforts and the start of spring practice, which kicked off on Monday.

Asked if the coaching change affected any recruits, Lee said, “We’d pretty much already identified our target areas and we are always looking to expand. But at this point we’ve made our offers and are getting kids down to see the campus.”
