Meetings watch: Curry County Commission

The Curry County Commission is slated to conduct a special meeting at 9 a.m. today at 417 Gidding Street. One of the targeted agenda items is discussion on the detention center renovation and addition project.

During last month’s regular meeting ASA Architects was granted approval to proceed with the design development phase for the expansion and renovation of the Curry County Detention Center.

ASA Architects President Ted Shelton presented the schematic design phase to commission members at that time, with the commission agreeing to move forward with the next step in the process — design of a 96 bed facility, including a medical area, with an option for 48 beds.

According to cost estimates, there was $10,250,000 available for the 48-bed project. Officials said increasing the expansion to 96 beds would be in the neighborhood of an additional $5.5 million.

Other agenda items include:

• Discussion, review and requested approval of plans and a contract to construct a pre-engineered metal building for the Broadview fire station .

• An update on the 2017 legislative session, and any discussion and/or action that may be necessary.

• Discussion on courthouse renovation.

• Discussion and action on Curry County priorities for state roads and Curry County’s primary point of contact with New Mexico Department of Transportation on priorities, projects and work.

• Committee and board assignments for the current makeup of county commissioners.

• Discussion and input on the commission’s rules of order during meetings.
