1967: Fire gutted the interior of Tucker Equipment at 400 E. First in Clovis.

Damage was estimated at $120,000 to $150,000.

City police discovered the fire about 6:30 a.m.

Store Manager John Ricci said he was in a local restaurant when he learned about the blaze.

Officials said they did not know what caused the fire, but it started in the parts department at the front of the building.

1962: Kennedy Electric of Portales was low-bidder for modification of the chapel and annex at Cannon Air Force Base.

The bid was for $124,000.

Work was expected to start immediately.

1962: An estimated 8,000 to 10,000 acres of prairie were scorched by fire south of Tucumcari.

Officials said the flames "cut a path six to eight miles long and half a mile wide," United Press International reported.

Sustained winds of 35-40 mph hampered firefighter efforts to bring the fire under control.
