Voters across region weigh in at school board elections

Voters across eastern New Mexico approved two-mill levies during Tuesday’s election while Clovis voters authorized renewal of $20 million in bonds. Additionally, myriad school board seats were also filled.

The two-mill measure passed by a margin of 807-315 in Clovis, 260-23 in Portales, 62-26 in Dora and 56-9 in Melrose.

Meanwhile, Clovis Municipal Schools officials asked voters to grant up to $20 million in general obligation bonds, which they said would essentially continue the existing debt service at the same level and would not result in a debt service tax rate increase — adding the district’s assessed value has continued to grow strong, allowing the district to issue up to the bonds without increasing the debt service tax rate. The general obligation bonds passed 1,147-224.

Portales also passed a bond issue 273-17.
