This weekend's weather, as described through a late-night monologue, would sound something like, "Don't worry about the fire weather watch Saturday. Sunday's snowfall will put it out."
Joking aside, it will be a weekend of extremes as residents can expect an 80-degree Saturday and snowfall when they go to sleep on Sunday.
"Temperature wise, (Friday) and Saturday, you're looking to be in the 80s," said Chris Luckett, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Albuquerque. "Sunday, we definitely see the drastic drop in temperatures. You're looking at a drop into the mid-40s. Monday, you'll drop into the mid-30s."
Luckett said there will be a strong cold front from Arizona that will push south and west across the state Sunday morning. Add in precipitation following it, and the conditions are ripe for some snow. Luckett said the snowfall shouldn't be all that devastating.
"I wouldn't be surprised if you see a half an inch to an inch," Luckett said, noting snowfall could be up to 8 inches across the northern mountain areas and 6 inches in the southern mountain areas.
The temperatures will climb back over the week, Luckett said, with high expected in the 40s on Tuesday and the 50s on Wednesday.
