1982: The Refugee Program of Clovis was a week away from opening its doors to Laotian refugees.

The facility was at 1305 Thornton St. and was intended to assist about 450 Laotians who were living in the area.

Sandia Baptist Church had been offering English classes and helping refugees find jobs, but the refugee center would provide more resources, officials said, with state and federal funding.

1982: The Soroptimist International club of Clovis was preparing for its 17th annual Sloppy Joe dinner at Baxter-Curren Hall, 908 Hickory.

The Senior Citizens Kitchen Band was slated to provide entertainment.

Cost was $3.

1962: City officials in Clovis were asking area residents about issues downtown.

Polls showed residents overwhelmingly supported angle parking and a 15-mph speed limit.
