CLOVIS — The Clovis Fire Department knocked out a grass fire Thursday night along Brady Street, adjacent to the city landfill.
Approximately 15 acres were burned in the fire, said Mike Jouett, serving as battalion chief Thursday evening.
“It was wind-driven, no structures at all,” Jouett said. “Just (burned) a field, caught a couple of telephone poles and that was it. We were on scene about 45 minutes to an hour.”
The fire was actually called in by the fire department, Jouett said. A crew was on the way to an ambulance call in Texico, and noticed the blaze just before 7:30 p.m. It took four units from the department, plus help from landfill staff.
The cause of the fire was undetermined as of Thursday night.
