1977: Children playing with matches were blamed for a storage shed fire in the back yard at 1209 Hull St. in Clovis.
No one was hurt in the blaze, but the shed was destroyed.
Firefighters stayed at the scene for 29 minutes.
1962: Don Sides, of Sides Food Market in Clovis, reported to police that someone had filled his car with rocks.
Also from the police blotter: A 35-year-old Clovis man was arrested for drunken driving, taken to the hospital for a blood test, and "put to bed in the hospital on the advice of his physician," the Clovis News-Journal reported.
1957: Lawmakers in Santa Fe were critical of news coverage throughout the state.
Rep. Anderson Carter, D-Roosevelt County, said reporters should be at the Legislature so they could get information first-hand.
Rep. Andrew Chitwood, D-Curry County, "declared that some newspaper stories, particularly editorials, misrepresent the intent of the Legislature in taking certain actions," the United Press reported.
