Of note: This is a rematch of a first-round game from last season. The Wolverines beat the Cougars 73-61 en route to winning the 3A state championship as guards Dalton Thatcher and Braden Fraze each had three 3-pointers and 16 points. Texico went on to beat Tucumcari in the 3A finals 77-52.

Of note: The teams met on Jan. 20 at Fort Sumner, with the Foxes posting a 58-42 victory. … Two of Fort Sumner’s losses came in back-to-back games against 3A No. 2 Texico — 48-37 in the EPAC finals and 64-51 three nights later at home. The Foxes’ only other setback came in early December to Dexter in a tournament at Melrose.

He’s also blocking 2 1/2 shots per contest.

While the Buffaloes edged the Yellowjackets at home 53-49 on Jan. 20, Cimarron has lost three times to Clayton — the first two by more than 20 points but just 70-67 in the third meeting at Clayton on Feb. 6. … The Buffs defeated Mora 63-51 to win the Class 2A championship last year.

Melrose than won a playoff for the top seed in the district tournament, but the Lady Tigers came back with a 47-44 overtime win in the tourney finals. … Both teams beat Cloudcroft this year, although Carrizozo’s game was much closer than the Lady Tigers’ 54-7 victory. … Elida won its sixth consecutive small-school state title last March, beating district rival Grady 55-31 in the finals.
