1992: Sandia Elementary School was host to an historic flag display on loan from the Santa Fe National Guard.
The collection included 10 U.S. flags, some hand sewn and some with painted designs.
Several of the flags were 200 years old.
1987: Eastern New Mexico University's Golden Library had received 27 volumes about the life and tribulations of the Lewis and Clark expedition team.
The collection was donated by Raymond Averill of Sun City, Arizona, on behalf of his son, Grant Averill, a 1976 graduate of ENMU.
The senior Averill had made a lifetime hobby of acquiring information about the explorers.
Declining health inspired him to donate his collection.
