Clovis baseball squad downs Roswell High in semifinals
ROSWELL — The Clovis High baseball team defeated Roswell High 7-5 in the semifinals of the Roswell Southwest Invitational late Friday night.
The Wildcats, who improved to 5-2, will square off against Roswell Goddard (2-0) in tonight's championship game. The first pitch is slated for 7 p.m. Goddard beat Del Norte, 10-2, in Friday's other semifinal.
After falling behind 1-0 after the first inning, Clovis scored four runs in the top of the second frame. The Wildcats added single runs in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings.
Junior Sebastian Nunez threw six innings for Clovis. Sophomore Anthony Montoya and junior Tomas Gallegos combined to pitch the seventh.
In Friday's two consolation games, Taos outlasted Ruidoso 15-14 and St. Michael's whipped Lovington 10-0.
The three-day tournament wraps up with four games beginning at 10 a.m.
