Ex-Plateau CEO candidate for city job

CLOVIS — A Clovis city commissioner said Monday one man has been interviewed for the interim city manager position, and former Plateau CEO Tom Phelps confirmed he has talked with commissioners about the job.

The city plans to hire an interim manager during its Thursday meeting, according to the agenda released Monday afternoon.

The candidate would temporarily take the position that will soon be vacated by Larry Fry, who is leaving on April 30 after two years on the job.

Commissioners reached Monday afternoon declined to provide specifics, saying the matter would be discussed Thursday.

"At this point," Commissioner Chris Bryant said, "there's only one person we've actually interviewed."

The commission met Thursday for 2 1/2 hours in executive session to discuss the vacancy.

Phelps, who retired last year as CEO of Plateau, confirmed Monday afternoon he has discussed the matter with commissioners.

"I met with them at their request ...," Phelps said, "and that's all the input I have at this time."

Questions to the commissioners and Fry were referred to Mayor David Lansford and City Attorney David Richards. A call placed to Lansford was not immediately returned, and Richards referred questions to Lansford.
