CHS tennis squads split with Goddard

CLOVIS — Clovis High's boys won two of three super-tiebreakers and the Wildcats won Tuesday's dual against Roswell Goddard at the CHS tennis courts,

Senior Roland Angadi at No. 1 singles and junior Colby Coiner at No. 4 won the 10-point tiebreakers after splitting sets with their Goddard opponents and the Cats, winning five of six singles matches, claimed a 6-3 victory over the Rockets.

In girls competition, Goddard took two of three in doubles competition and notched a 5-4 win over the Lady Wildcats.

"It was pretty evenly matched," CHS tennis coach Brenna Silveira said. "It was nice to see the boys win. Even when they didn't win, they worked hard for it and (the matches were) close."

Senior J.J. Alvarado won a second-set tiebreaker to finish off the Rockets Chris Brooks 6-7, 7-6 (7-1).

On the girls' side, junior Jadan Anderson rallied from a one-set deficit to beat sophomore Rae Jones 3-6, 7-5, (10--5). Clovis also got singles wins from senior Kylee Brooks at No. 1 and Madison Credle at No. 2, and they teamed up to beat Goddard seniors Breanna Blaylock and Briana Meeks 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.

"There are a couple of things we need to go back and work on, but overall I thought we played well," Silveira said of the girls. "Madison played well today, and so did Kylee."

The Cats and Lady Cats return to action next Tuesday, hosting Portales in 3 p.m. duals at CHS.
