Man convicted on sex charges

CLOVIS — A Clovis man faces up to nine years in prison following a Tuesday evening conviction on criminal sexual penetration.

Sentencing is pending for Logan Reavis, 28. He was found guilty by a Curry County jury following about two hours of deliberation, according to a release from the district attorney’s office.

Once Reavis is out of prison, he will be required to register as a sex offender for life.

According to the release, the charges stem from November 2014, when a couple was hosting a party at their home in Clovis. The female victim went to bed, according to the release, but was awoken by Reavis sexually assaulting her.

District Judge Fred Van Soelen presided over the case. Chief Deputy District Attorney Brian Stover prosecuted the case, while Thomas Harden was Reavis’ attorney.

A message left at Harden’s office for comment Wednesday afternoon was not immediately returned.

ENMU close to new president

PORTALES — Eastern New Mexico University is coming closer to a decision in its search for a new president.

The ENMU Board of Regents, in a special meeting on March 20, will likely narrow a pool of 10 candidates to five finalists, who will then come to the campus for interviews, according to President Steven Gamble.

A new president will then be chosen from the five finalists, providing there is a suitable candidate “that would accept the board’s offer,” Gamble said.

While the board would have to negotiate a time of arrival with the new president, Gamble said they should ideally be on campus some time in the summer.

“I am retiring effective the first of August, so ideally, there would be some overlap, I think. By that, I’m talking about the person would come in maybe a little bit earlier, so I could kind of talk to him or her about the processes at the university,” he said. “The intent is to have somebody onboard by the first of August, if not earlier.”

The search for a new president began in November 2016 after Gamble tendered his official resignation letter before the board in May of the same year.

Gamble became president of ENMU in 2001.
