Meetings watch: Curry County Commission

The Curry County Commission will meet 9 a.m. today at the North Annex of the Clovis-Carver Public Library.

Agenda items include:

• An executive session at the conclusion of the meeting to discuss threatened and pending litigation before the county.

• A quarterly update on the Eastern New Mexico Water Utility Authority from Executive Director Justin Howalt.

• Reports from the events center and fairgrounds, the road department and the detention center.

• A request for up to $17,000 in accessibility improvements at the Curry County Fairgrounds. The list includes six new concrete walkways and repair or replacement of six concrete pads.

• A series of budget adjustments in order to record a $40,000 federal grant for the county’s Retired Senior Volunteer program.

• Updates to lease agreements with the Freedom Foundation for properties on the 900 block of Mitchell Street.

• A request to hire an additional courthouse security officer for the sheriff’s office.

• A request to continue with a three-year grant for the Foster Grandparent Program. The state and local governments must provide a combined 10 percent match for the $50,864 annual award.

• Rescheduling of two meetings in June and July.

The county’s June 20 meeting would be rescheduled to June 29 due to a conflict with the New Mexico Association of Counties conference. That meeting would likely include much of the content from a July 4 meeting the county intends to cancel. In that meeting’s place would be a 9 a.m. July 27 special meeting set up largely to adopt the 2017-18 county budget.
