ENMU track teams get four provisional marks

TUCSON, Ariz. — The Eastern New Mexico University track teams registered four NCAA Division II national-meet qualifying marks and set six school records in their outdoor opener over the weekend in the Willie Williams Invitational, hosted by the University of Arizona.

Freshman Marcus Parker, senior Jacques Hill and sophomores Avery Rasher and Julian Coronado broke a school record in the 400 relay with a time of 40.37 seconds to top Arizona for first place in the event and earn a provisional qualifier for the D-II outdoor nationals May 25-27 in Bradenton, Fla.

Also for the Greyhounds, Parker also won the 100 (10.65 seconds) and 200 (21.20) in provisional qualifying marks, while sophomore Gus Swanson earned the other qualifier in the 400 hurdles in a time of 52.68.

Freshman Ivar Moinat was third in the 800 in a school-record time of 1:53.53, while teammate Omar Almog was fourth in 1:53.58, also eclipsing the previous school mark set by Dennis Kerg in 2007.

Junior Kenneth Lloyd went 6 feet, 8 3/4 inches in high jump to provisionally qualify and break Michael Moore’s three-year-old school mark. Lloyd also broke the school record in long jump, set in 2003 by Corey Clay, with a leap of 22-7.

For the ENMU women, the 400 relay team of Dominique Zamora, Maijah Mathis, Abbey Aultman and Lateria Slaughter set a school mark in 47.83, while sophomore Brooke Walker eclipsed Mika Willis’ five-year-old record in the 400 hurdles in 1:05.87.

Freshmen Mason Swanson and Sierra Quinones were sixth and ninth, respectively, in the 800. Sophomore Kiana Covington (400) and Mathis (100) earned eighth-place finishes.
