LCU tops ENMU in twin bill

LUBBOCK — Katlyn Holmes tossed a no-hitter and Lubbock Christian erupted for six runs in the third inning to beat Eastern New Mexico 8-0 on Tuesday and complete a doubleheader sweep over the Greyhounds.

LCU (19-10) won the opener in eight innings 3-2. ENMU (13-24) saw its losing streak reach 10 games.

The Hounds had three baserunners against Holmes (3-0), who finished with three strikeouts and needed just 57 pitches in a game called after 4 1/2 innings on the eight-run rule.

Katera Eltsosie, who homered, drove in the winning run and pitched a complete-game four-hitter for the Lady Chaps in the opener, hit a run-scoring single in the first inning of Game 2 before LCU broke it open in the third. The big blow was a two-run double by Addison Ard.

In the opener, ENMU erased a 2-0 deficit when left fielder Cameron Conrad hit a two-run double with two out in the top of the fifth. Freshman Kaylee Rogers (9-12) gave up two runs in the second, then blanked the Lady Chaps until Eltsosie hit a game-winning single to right field with two out in the bottom of the eighth.

Eltsosie homered to lead of the LCU second, and another run scored when catcher Roxy Curiel single to center to drive in Sydney Beuthien.

ENMU returns to Lone Star Conference play with a three-game weekend series at home against Texas-Permian Basin, beginning with a noon doubleheader on Friday.
