1977: Clovis city commissioners had instructed the city manager's office to sell 919 parking meters that had been in storage since 1970, when they were removed from city streets.
Bidders were expected to be located through the company that sold the meters to the city for use downtown.
1972: Portales police said they had solved a string of eight recent burglaries.
Five teenagers had been arrested and several hundred dollars worth of merchandise was recovered.
The youngsters admitted to stealing from the Church of the Nazarene, Portales High School, the El Matador Restaurant, individuals' homes and other businesses.
