1992: UCLA defeated New Mexico State University, 85-78, at the Pit in Albuquerque to advance to the final eight in the men’s NCAA basketball tournament.
“This is probably no disgrace,” Aggies coach Neil McCarthy told the Clovis News-Journal.
“We didn’t get run out. I’m sure nobody expected us to be in the Sweet Sixteen.”
1977: Tucumcari police had arrested a murder suspect just before he could board a Greyhound bus for Baltimore.
The 31-year-old man was a suspect in a Dallas homicide.
He was carrying a concealed revolver when he was taken into custody.
1972: Clovis schools officials were planning a ceremony to honor their safest bus drivers.
Helen Brandon was among four dozen drivers employed by the district. She had worked 30 years in Clovis without an accident.
Brandon also drove five years for Melrose schools without an accident.
