COMMERCE, Texas — Texas A&M-Commerce’s Kinsie Hebler tossed a six-inning no-hitter and the Lions blanked Eastern New Mexico University 8-0 on Saturday in the rubber match of their three-game Lone Star Conference softball series.
Hebler (8-1) threw complete games in the Lions’ two wins in the series. And after going 6-for-7 in Friday’s doubleheader split, she belted a two-run homer, her ninth, in a six-run second against ENMU freshman Kaylee Rogers (13-13).
Second baseman Tyler Oppenheim added a two-run triple for Commerce (26-12, 11-7) LSC. Three of the runs in that inning against Rogers were unearned.
ENMU’s lone baserunner in the game was center fielder Ashley Lopez, who was hit by a 1-2 pitch from Hebler in the second. Hebler retired the final 14 batters and finished with just 61 pitches.
The Greyhounds (17-26, 10-11) managed just one run in 14 innings against Hebler, including the final inning in relief of ENMU’s 5-4 first-game win on Friday.
Rogers allowed 10 hits in going the distance in the circle. She walked two and struck out no one.
Catcher Mariah Jameyson made it 7-0 with a two-out RBI single in the fourth, then ended the game on the eight-run rule with a one-out homer in the bottom of the sixth, her 12th of the season and second in the series. She is tied with ENMU junior Erikka Burke for the LSC home run lead.
The Hounds step outside the conference on Tuesday for a 1 p.m. twin bill against Oklahoma Christian at Oklahoma City.
