1977: Clovis city commissioners adopted resolutions acknowledging some city sidewalks were in disrepair.

The sidewalks were all on West 14th Street, including one in front of James Bickley School.

"By publicly stating the faulty nature of the sidewalks, the city can protect itself against liability in the event someone is hurt on the broken or disaligned sidewalks," the Clovis News-Journal reported.

1972: Ned Houk Memorial Park was home to a new model airplane flying field.

About 25 planes were expected to participate in a formal opening of the field.

Dale Blaylock, a charter member of the Clovis Model Airplane Drivers Society formed in 1966, was among the organizers for the formal opening scheduled at 2 p.m. on April 9.

The field was located within the park, six miles north and 2 1/2 miles east of Clovis off of State Road 18.
