Two arrested in connection with homicide

CLOVIS — Two persons sought since March for their connection to a homicide last year were arrested out of town and charged this week.

Kimberly Moore, 35, of Clovis, and Dominic Carver, 25, of Dona Ana, are both in custody at Lincoln County Detention Center in Carrizozo, each charged with resisting, evading, or obstructing an officer, concealing identity, and use or possession of drug paraphernalia.

Moore and Carver were last believed to have been in the Albuquerque area, according to police. They were arrested in Clovis in May 2015, following a vehicle chase and shooting that left one person, Francisco Perez, dead.

Law enforcement said last month that they wanted to speak to Moore and Carver as homicide witnesses. They said last year that Perez’s death followed a dispute he had with Carver, who had allegedly borrowed his car and not returned it.

Perez died around 4:45 a.m. on May 1, 2016, at Plains Regional Medical Center. Prior to that, he was in a vehicle with Moore pursuing another one carrying Carver and at least two others.

Police said the vehicle chase began in Clovis, went to Portales, and ended back in Clovis near Southland and Mississippi streets. Soon after, Perez was shot, Moore was arrested for driving her vehicle into Carver’s, and Carver was arrested on unrelated charges, according to District Attorney Detective Dan Blair.

Blair said last month that authorities spoke to both Carver and Moore after the shooting, but decided later in the investigation that “they had more information than they were letting on.”

Carver and Moore have not been in the Curry County Detention Center since August and December, respectively, according to jail records.

They were each scheduled for Tuesday morning arraignments in the 12th Judicial District Court under Judicial Officer Katie Lund, according to court records. Carver is scheduled for a pre-trial hearing April 20 at 1 p.m., and Moore is scheduled for a pre-trial hearing May 11 at 1 p.m.

Both Carver and Moore were represented by a public defender in the 12th Judicial District, not identified by name in either court record. The public defender’s office could not be reached for comment.

Representatives of the Curry County Sheriff Office and Clovis Police Department declined to comment further on Tuesday.
