Matadors romp past Lady Cats in district tilts

ALBUQUERQUE — Sandia put a quick end to Clovis High’s two-game softball winning streak on Saturday.

The Matadors run-ruled the Lady Wildcats twice, winning the opener 10-0 in five innings and the nightcap 15-0 in four in District 2-6A action.

The Lady Cats (2-21, 2-6 district) were locked in a scoreless tie in the opener when Sandia scored four runs in the bottom of the third. The Matadors ended it on the 10-run rule with one in the fifth.

Sandia collected 13 hits in the contest, with Madyson Ramkowsky going 3-for-3 and driving in three runs with a pair of homers. Kara Rodeheaver pitched four innings for the win.

In the second game, the Matadors (16-4, 5-2) built a 9-0 lead through two innings and ended the game on the 15-run rule with a six-run fourth. Victoria Reyes went 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored and also pitched three innings for the win.

It was Clovis’ first games since getting on the board last weekend with a 10-0, 6-5 district sweep of Santa Fe High at Lady Wildcat Field.

“We took a little bit of a step back today,” CHS coach Brandi Thomas said. “I’m going to give it to Sandia — they hit the ball hard. Even their outs were loud.”

Clovis returns to action on Tuesday with a 4:30 p.m. game at Portales before finishing the season with a 1 p.m. district twinbill at home on Saturday against La Cueva.
