Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
PORTALES — With a recent grant, Portales MainStreet will receive increased financial assistance and come one step closer to being recognized at the organization’s state and national levels.
The New Mexico Resiliency Alliance on April 27 granted the program — along with 16 other community programs around the state — a “challenge grant” in the amount of $4,000, which Executive Director Sandy Vigil said it would use to match profits generated by an upcoming fundraising campaign.
The increased funds will also bring the program closer to reaching the budget amount required to become accredited under the state and national MainStreet programs.
“Right now, we are an affiliate of the state, and we get one technical service for each of the four points that we follow,” Vigil said. “Once we are accredited, we receive two in each area. For example, last year, they did our website. That’s $3,500 that we saved just from being affiliated or accredited with the state (organization).”
Those technical services will enable Portales MainStreet to provide services to local businesses, said Vigil.
