Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

In service of family, community

Veronica Cordova was born and raised in Portales. She is the daughter of Humberto and Yolanda Sanchez. She has two brothers, Javier Sanchez, married to Heather Sanchez, and Carlos Sotelo. She has been married to Adolpho Cordova for 16 years and together for 20. They have four children.

One of her favorite things to do is be involved with her kid's sporting events for the joy of watching them compete.

Cordova is a board member at Portales MainStreet and is a Portales Chamber Ambassador. She is in her first year of city council in Portales. She said she enjoys learning about government issues and operations. She has been employed with US Bank for nearly eight years.

What do you like about your job?

I enjoy serving the community. In both my positions I am able to help people. Watching people succeed financially and when they are taking steps in the right direction for their life, it is nice to know that I played a small part in making it happen.

What's your favorite TV show, past and present?

Past is 'Saved by the Bell' and present is 'Criminal Minds.'

When you were a kid, what did you think you'd be doing as an adult?

I thought I'd be teaching school.

What's the best gift you've ever given?

The gift of family. My extended family is very close, as well. I have a cousin (Anysia Montoya) who is more like a sister to me. She has a husband and two girls; Robert, Briana, and Alexis. I have a lot of uncles and aunts and other cousins who have been instrumental in who I am today. My grandparents are also a big part of my life; Ascencion and Rosalia Sanchez and Orlando and Celia Ortega. I lost my grandfather Ascencion in 2001 and my grandmother Celia in 2013. She was the biggest influence in my life, teaching me the meaning of family and what it means to be a servant of God and to your family.

What's so great about your favorite sport?

My favorite sport is softball. I play on a women's league in Clovis and I get to hang out with my team and enjoy the competition. I met my best friend, Pat Petner, through softball. She and her daughter Riley are both on the team. I have made a lot of memories. I also get to watch my daughter Victoria and her best friend Kiersten compete at a collegiate level.

What's your favorite smell?

The smell of roses. It reminds me of my grandmother.

If you could master one instrument, what would it be?

I am not very musically inclined, so any instrument would be an accomplishment.

Tell us about your favorite place to travel?

My bucket list is to get to every MLB baseball stadium. I have a long way to go but my St. Louis trip was my favorite. They are my favorite team and I was able to go to a couple of games with my husband and kids. I went to the new stadium; the old one was already down.
