Suspect arrested after foot chase

CLOVIS — A suspect wanted on warrant was arrested and a city police officer was hospitalized following a foot chase Tuesday morning.

John Lamas, 37, is accused of fleeing from responding officers near 14th and Edwards streets shortly after 10:51 a.m., according to Police Capt. Roman Romero.

“During the foot chase, Officer Antonio Orozco impacted a metal pipe while chasing Lamas but was still able to chase him down and capture him,” said Romero.

Lamas was booked into Curry County jail for possession of methamphetamines (discovered after his arrest), resisting arrest, and in service of an oustanding warrant for failure to appear. He was in the Curry County Adult Detention Center on $10,000 cash-only bond.

Orozco was released Tuesday from Plains Regional Medical Center after being treated there for his injuries.

Officers initially came upon Lamas while responding to a report of possible domestic violence. Romero said Lamas will likely be arraigned this morning.

It was not immediately known if Lamas had an attorney.
