Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities
Deondra Robledo is a Clovis native, known around town as "Didi." Her significant other is Victor Robledo, also a Clovis native.
She graduated from Clovis High School with the class of 2000. She is the mother of three, one with autism. She said she faces some of the toughest times raising a disabled child, but she cherishes every moment and every day is a learning experience. She said her child thrives in the Special Olympics each year and has won six medals since 2015.
She and her significant other face the challenges of balancing the needs of each of their children and advocate for a better understanding of autism in the community. Robledo would like to see more opportunities and resources so every child with disabilities can reach their full potential.
Robledo and her family attend Faith Christian Family Church in Clovis.
Today is Mother's Day. Tell us about one of your most memorable Mother's Day?
Normally I work on Mother's Day, but in 2016 I was able to spend Mother's Day with my children. Just having them wake me up out of bed and tell me Happy Mother's Day was special to me because that wasn't the norm for me. They pampered me that day.
What's your idea of a perfect day?
My idea of a perfect day is happiness for the day, that each family member is all around happy and having a great day. Some days are just tough to balance. As moms, I think we all worry about dividing our time and attention and we want to make sure we're doing enough.
When you were a kid, what did you think you'd be doing as an adult?
I don't remember what I wanted to be as a child but I wanted to be a flight medic later on. I like helping people. What inspired to start pursuing this is that my son stopped breathing once and I didn't know what to do. I've started the course by completing my EMT basics and in time will continue training.
What do you like about your job?
I like that I have a very understanding boss. My life requires flexibility and the people I work with are very supportive of that.
What's your favorite TV show, past and present?
I watch TV shows with my kids like "Lego Ninja" and "Trolls," the movie and "Alaska: The Last Frontier" is a favorite of mine. I also love documentaries about food mostly.
What's your favorite taste?
Dark chocolate. Also, you might think I'm weird, but, I like pH water.
What's your favorite smell?
The smell after the rain.
If you could master one instrument, what would it be?
The piano.
Who's invited to your fantasy dinner party and why?
I'd invite my grandma who died six years ago to a one-on-one. She was one of the most important people of my life and a chance to catch her up with my life would be a dream come true.
Tell us about your favorite place to travel?
I like to travel to Galveston. I like the water. I like trees and nature. I just enjoy the travel before the destination.
What do you envision your life being like in 10 years?
Watching my children in sports and just growing with my family. Each year gets better and so I just hope to see who my kids become.
