1982: Clovis Municipal Schools Board of Education approved a budget of $20.3 million for the 1982-83 school year.

The budget showed the district would employ a full-time equivalent of 414 teachers who were paid an average annual salary of $21,342.

The CMS budget for 2017-18 is $113 million. The district today employs 540 teachers whose average annual salary is $46,000.

1982: Salaries of New Mexico district attorneys were scheduled to increase from $37,000 to $41,000 on July 1, following action by the state Legislature earlier in the year.

Clovis-Portales District Attorney Andrea Reeb's salary today is $110,000.

1957: Santa Fe Railway President Maggie Marsh was making plans to attend Clovis' Golden Anniversary in June.

Marsh, a former Clovis resident, was named the railroad's president on May 1.

Marsh had moved to Clovis as a boy in 1908 and began working for the railroad as a clerk in 1918, the Clovis News-Journal reported.
